Where can I find information about space?

Space, or outer space, is the area outside our planet Earth's atmosphere. Stars and planets exist in space. This entry has websites where you can find information about everything related to space from comets and meteors, to living in space.
There are some great websites with information on space.
This website has interesting information on the solar system, space travel and more.
Tips: Websites that have .com or .co in the address can have good information, but you need to assess how reliable it is. Check the About DK link on this website to find out what the company's mission and values are.
This site has interesting fact sheets on earth, black holes and space in general.
- Enter space in the search box under the main headings.
- Select a fact sheet that interests you eg What is a Black Hole in space?
Tips: Search words, or keywords, are the most important words in our question. Usually it’s better to leave out small words like ‘the’, ‘a’ and ‘of’ and just choose the main ones, e.g [Space]. We can always change our keywords or add more if we need to.
This website has pictures and information about the planets in our solar system.
- Use the menu on the left of the page to find information about each planet eg Mercury.
- There are PDFs to download.
Tips: Many web pages have links to further information or to other recommended sites. Following these links is a great way to find out more. This searching method is called “pearl growing” because you are picking up pieces of sand to make a beautiful pearl!
ESA Kids is another great website with lots of information about space.
- Select the Learn tab at the top of the page.
- Choose from the range of topics listed eg Comets or The International Space Station.
There are a number of books that have been written about space in New Zealand - check out your local public or school library to see what they have there.
