Introduction

European history between about 500 and 1500 AD is known as the Middle Ages or Medieval period. People think of the Middle Ages as a time of knights and castles. Also great changes happened throughout Europe during the Middle Ages especially in weapons technology and political structures.

This education site is easy to read and interesting.

A free-to-use site filled with videos and articles on lots of topics, including the Middle Ages.

The British library focuses on English history and literature from the Middle Ages till recent times with primary sources in a digitised format.

  • Go to Online resources.

  • Scroll down to the History section and choose The Middle Ages.

EPIC is a collection of reliable databases covering lots of different topics. It’s put together especially for New Zealand school students and helps to answer questions like this.

Britannica School

This online version of the Encyclopedia Britannica is a reliable website with great information on the Middle ages.

  • Login using your school password (or ask a librarian on AnyQuestions).

  • Choose a level like Middle (you can always change the level later, if you need to).

  • Type your keyword 'middle ages' into the search bar.

  • Choose Middle Ages (European history).
